Song of Songs 1:12, Pen and Ink by Cliff Derksen
If the scent of supper does all of that for you what would the scent of perfume do to a person? Smells raise all kinds of emotions in us.
The above drawing, "doodle", or expressionistic work of pen and ink is the second in my "Emotions" series. This one is inspired by Songs of Solomon 1:12 where the beautiful Shunamite shepherdess's perfume spreads its fragrance and gains the attention of her love interest, the very king of the nation. Romantic emotions come alive and then all bets are off, anything can happen!
It's been quite the challenge to express, when limited to lines of black ink only, the spread of the perfumes scent and the romantic emotions it raises in the response of the king.
As you can probably tell, in the photo above you are seeing only a portion of the work. This is my way of teasing you. I know, you smell a rat! (Sorry!) Well, I do have some news. I would like to take this opportunity to announce that we, the Derksen family are working on and planning an art show here in the city of Winnipeg. This show will of course, include past works of art plus new work by each of the Derksen artists, Odia Reimer, Wilma and myself. Including of course this series inspired by the "Song of Songs on the subject of "Emotions."
Sorry to do this to you but we don't have all the details at this time. When these are nailed down and become available we will let you know as soon as we can right here. It seems like places are pretty booked up so it may not happen till sometime in 2015. At lest that will give us some time to hopefully get quite a few new art pieces for the show. All I can say is stay tuned for further information as it becomes available.
Wishing all my readers a fantastic Christmas and the best New Year ever. May this holiday season bring excitement and growth into every aspect of your life, physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually. God bless everyone.
