One of guys in the class is into hockey. He loves Bobby Orr and found articles and photos about him and his career. That was his theme and he went with it.
This included painting the base yellow as that matched with the Bruin's uniforms. Then after he had collected his materials, began composing his piece based on the shapes, colors, and photos he'd found. It's called composition in the art world.
Here is another one which one of the girls did. They are both fantastic. Everyone had fun.
We spent two days on this exciting project. The first day we watched a video of Betty Frank Krause who's specialty is to create mixed media collages. You can find her on utube. We all learned a lot from just watching her work. Then we went ahead and created our own. The first class spent on deciding on what our theme would be and finding materials for the piece. Then planing the composition and colors.
The second class was doing the actual calloge itself.
Below is one that I made as an illustration to the class demonstrating how things are done all along the way to completion.
