The fact of the matter was that she was a shepherdess. The lowest of the low in her culture. How was it possible for a king who had a bevy of beautiful and eager young women right in his court, be interested in her?
Let's look at it from the kings (lover's) perspective. He saw things quite differently. He was obviously bored and tired of the endless finery, constant flirtations, and the never ending politics of seeking favour - kind of ladies in his court. This shepherdess was refreshing! She was different.
This is how he put it. "Like a lily among thorns is my darling among the young women!" Song of Songs 2:2.
In on other words, by comparison, she was the lily among these thorns in his life! The ladies of the king's court were just thons and bramble bushes compared to this amazing shepherdess!
The "doodle" above is an image inspired by this thought.
Why not, at the next opportunity guys, tell the woman in your life that compared to her, the rest of the ladies you know are just bramble bushes and thorns. That compared to all of them she's the "Lily" of your life.
Might be a nice way to start 2014!
Happy New Years to Everyone.
