Rendered Helpless and Sidetracked!

During these last two months or so I have been totally sidetracked and distracted from my normal life of creating art in my own studio. The reason being my wife, Wilma the artist, got a consignment at our last art show earlier in April of this year. That was wonderful and we all celebrated with her. Then reality struck.

The project was a unique, having to enlarge the likenesses of several of her paintings up to, it felt like 50 times or more! She'd never encountered anything like this before. This, to say the least, was out of the box thinking! So, she turned to me, blinked those eyes that render me completely helpless, and asked very nicely, if not desperately whether I couldn't help her with this project. In fact, implied that without my help it would not happen!

This is what us guys are all about, helping the damsel in distress!

And, I've discovered, it's also what marriage is all about. In big and small ways, it is all about sacrifice. Happy sacrifice. Marriage is essentially and willingly adding your life's partners goals in life, irrevocably to any list of personal goals you might have! In my case it all happened, a few years ago...(joke)... actually 40 plus years ago, with those simple but never to be forgotten words, "I do."
Each painting panel was covered with scripture from Bibles
the church uses to give out to attendees,
some of Gerry's sermons, and also some
from both our fathers old Bibles.
So about two months ago we began. We had to plan the layout of how the paintings would be placed on the huge two story wall. After many rough drawings and meetings a computer generated plan was devised.

The sizes were then clear and the construction of the panels for each painting were ordered. After they were done it became evident that the weight of the material Wilma would place on them would require that they be reinforced. This was done.

Then Wilma began laying scripture and other meaningful materials onto the surface. After this we began with the fun stuff, getting our hands dirty, laying down the body of the paintings and giving each the texture demanded by the much smaller originals.
There are five pieces in total. Each is unique having it's own purpose, story and design.

The deadline was looming. The grand opening was to be Sunday the 21st. Tuesday evening, September 16, '14 we were done. Wilma handed over a document describing each piece and passed the torch on to the very capable staff who would now devise ways to hang these panels on this wall.

It was exciting to receive the first email indicating that the first painting had been hung successfully.

You can see that the pages of scripture
are visible as texture on the painting in the foreground.
This coming Sunday is the "Grand Opening" of Soul Sanctuary, 2015 Chevrier Blvd. (W. of Waverley). It will be an event for the whole family, BBQ lunch and carnival for the kids.

Also, the congregation will be seeing these paintings on the wall for the very first time. There will be a write-up describing the story behind each piece.

Unfortunately, Wilma the artist, has to be in Victoria BC Sunday morning to start her "Executive Coaching" Class. (Who knew a university would start a class on a Sunday morning?) So she will miss the Grand Opening. But, we will drop in at the church on our way to the airport this afternoon, and Wilma (and I) will see them all on the wall for the very first time. Very exciting.

Plus, I feel privileged to have Wilma's life activities and goals integrated in to my own life goals! In this way each one's accomplishments are accomplishments for both of us!

Being "sidetracked" can sometimes be a very good thing, leading to new discoveries and accomplishments! Yikes!
“One of the advantages of being disorderly is that one is
constantly making exciting discoveries.
