When Your Tired...Thngs Happen!

Oh horrors what have we done!
Remember, we are two tired guys. Both of us have been working hard, burning the candle at both ends, dealing with pressures of life that just are part of living and learning. Tiredness is not good. It slows us down, hinders clear thought and cause one to forget important even
obvious matters, and can get rather embarrassing.

Like for example here in Chicago. We disembark chatting and talking oblivious to the fact that this leg of the journey to Ireland was a "add on" and separate from the rest of the flight arrangements that had been made months earlier. The fact of the matter was that our luggage was not going to go any further than Chicago!

Meanwhile we amble through the arrival area, we causally by-pass all the luggage pick-up stations and find our way to the connecting flight that would take us to Dublin. Plus, we were taking our time as we had time, like more than a 3 hour layover. We had to walk, we had to find a train shuttle service and finally walk some more to the Er Lingus Airline ticket area.

It was here that our guy brains began to get down to reality. As we looked around at the lines we become aware of something...how was it we wondered that we seemed to be the only ones without luggage? It became kind of obvious to us that something might be amiss. A quick call home and a chat with the experts who planned all this, confirmed our fears, our luggage would have been unloaded in Chicago and would be waiting for us there for pick up.

Wow! Since it had taken us some time to get to our connection, we knew our bags would have been circling for a while and probably by now were sitting abandoned somewhere or worse...even stolen! Images, of us going  through Ireland without our cloths was too much to even think about, or at this point joke about.

That thought motivated us and we hustled back as fast pride would let us, all way back to the terminal we had landed at. When we arrived, two gentlemen were very kind and thankfully very calm about it all, pointing out where we needed to go and in short order helped us find our luggage.

It turned out our luggage had been set aside and locked away safe and snug in a metal grating area for just this kind problem. What a relief to recognize our luggage among the pieces in the bin. They were both there and had survived the experience.

After registering our tickets and our luggage for Dublin, we sighed with relief and stopped for a very nice dinner, with an interesting "side", an amazing conversation with another fellow traveler from the USA.
Interesting Fact: Name of the city of Chicago is a derivative
of an aboriginal word referring to the vast number
of spring onion or wild garlic leeks
that grew in vast numbers in the woods of that area.
