Sunrise at the cabin in Lake of the Woods, Aug. '17 by Cliff Derksen
The summer months were exciting and filled with activity. We had my siblings and their spouses come from every western province to visit us here in Winnipeg for a few days. We partied, we did The Forks, the revolving restaurant, the English Gardens, the Aviation Museum! We took pictures, we ate out at Celebrations Theater singing Beatles songs we thought we'd forgotten. Plus we even went to a Goldeyes game!
Then my whole family spent a week at a cabin in the Lake of the Woods! Hence the photo above. Our cabin faced N. east so every morning we woke up to a beautiful sunrise. The ducks swimming across the scene was a special bonus. Great timing eh?
Then Wilma and I went for our own little holiday, an extended weekend to Fargo and Watertown to see the art museum of Terry Ridlin. His story is like mine growing up on the prairies, but also different in unique ways. He has passed away now but the gallery shows 160 or so of his amazing landscape originals. It was a very emotional and fantastic experience for me.
So here we are, ready to embark on another amazing year of teaching art at St. Aidan's Christian School. Students of very diverse backgrounds and nationalities, ranging from refugees, north end students, and home-schoolers. And to make it a little more challenging, it's from gr. 1 - 12. How much better can it get?
So, pray for me as I navigate all these classes and groups, teaching them and learning from them also. The holidays are over and I must mentally adjust from this holiday mod. It takes a bucket load of work and inspiration planning all these classes. I will need wisdom and clarity as I seek to kindle a spark of creativity, play, fun and learning, all at the same time.
Thank you in advance for your prayers.
